30/9/15 Court, QV
A Melbourne man was sentenced to seven days imprisonment yesterday, after being caught on CCTV footage stealing $800 worth of goods at QV shopping centre.
Michael Langer entered a BWS store inside QV on September 26, and jumped the counter after his card was declined.
After being taken away by security he returned to QV after it was closed, stealing two $400 Michael Kors and Armani watches from an electronics store.
Mr Langer then proceeded to take a laptop and damage some drawers in the store.
He was apprehended by security when he was sighted at the shopping centre three days later.
Mr Langer was found to be armed with a pocket knife and returned the laptop to police, but he denied stealing the watches.
His defence attorney said Mr Langer was “sleeping rough” and unemployed, with no fixed address.
He also told the Melbourne Magistrates court his client experienced mental health issues, and was a regular heroin user.
Magistrate Franz Holzer imposed a short prison sentence, noting Mr Langer “has a history” of criminal activity interstate.
He told Mr Langer he believed this sentence would leave him in a “better position to be living in” afterwards.
