The body of 18 year old Carl Lomas, was discovered at Kooroogool Nature Park yesterday at about 2pm.
Lomas, the son of Mayor Alan Lomas, was a senior student at St Hugh’s College.
He was last seen at school at around 11am yesterday.
His body was found by two younger students who were passing through the park.
Police said his death contained “no evidence of foul play”.
The apparent suicide comes just two years after the death of older brother Frank in a car accident.
Lomas’ mother Rosita Lomas wanted the public to know “the truth about Carl”.
“He was a good boy, and a wonderful human being, and we all miss him so much,” Mrs Lomas said.
She said he “had his ups and downs” like any teenager, yet she did not think he was unhappy.
“None of us expected this. He had everything to live for,” Mrs Lomas said.
The coroner is still to confirm the cause of death.
